BOOST Searching

Remember to put AS: before all of your advanced searches!

Boost searching can be really powerful for those who are doing topical studies (studies about certain ideas or thoughts) or word studies to find out how a word is used with other words.

Tutorial-Power-Search-Love

A BOOST search tells the Intelligent Search Box that a certain word in a list of items is more important. And the BOOST factor tells it how much more important. BOOST factors are added to search terms with the carat (^ found over the number “6” key). To search for verses with “love” and/or “God” where you are more interested in the occurrence of “love”, you could enter: love^4 God (1). This will search for both terms but put 4 times more emphasis on the word “love” when ranking the search results.

That means a verse with more “love” (1 above) will appear higher in the ranking. Notice how the first verse has two "God" and only one "love" (2 above). Now, compare the Intelligent Search Results below when the emphasis is put on “love” as opposed to “God” (1 below).

Intelligent Search returned hits with more "God" than "love" (2) as well as other suggestions from other sources (3) .
